Hurricane Dorian on Sunday became the “strongest hurricane in modern
records” for the northwestern Bahamas after it grew today into a
Category 5 storm with 180 mph sustained winds and gusts of up to 220
mph. The path also shifted slightly west today so more of Central
Florida is in the cone of uncertainty, and a hurricane watch was added
for a roughly 175-mile stretch of Florida’s east coast.
